Conseil National de Chargeurs Togolais implemented a new regulation in 2000 that made all shipments to Togo mandatory to have a ECTN certificate. And if this certificate is absent, there will be severe outcomes and an enormous fine. Togo’s ports are often used for transit purposes, but regardless of the reason you are using their ports, you still must have a ECTN certificate. Click here to find out more on transit shipments. The ECTN is an obligation for all ports in Togo, including Lome.
Being mandatory and crucial for the process, some might think that it would be hard to miss this certificate. But actually, it is one of the most overlooked certificates.
ECTN, in other African countries, can still be considered new, however in this case, despite being a requirement twenty-six years old, it is surprisingly an often overlooked certificate.
